Oh. My. God.
We knew NightQuarter had big things planned as far as music goes, but we weren’t expecting such a massive lineup announcement in the weeks preceding the launch.
NightQuarter is a night market with a bunch of separate food precincts within its purpose-built container city (those 200+ containers are being fitted out RIGHT NOW by the 120+ vendors who’ll occupy them) as well as a creative market space. But it’s so much more than that.
NightQuarter is located immediately adjacent to Helensvale Railway Station and is set to become the new hub for the Gold Coast’s burgeoning music scene. A dedicated live music and performance space called The Paddock takes centre stage and will become a platform for emerging Gold Coast artists. With capacity for 2000 there’s no doubt it fills a massive gap in the City’s current live music offerings.
“Obviously we hope to be seen as an incubator and promoter of local talent on the Gold Coast and we see it as a great opportunity for these smaller bands to get exposure to large audiences,” Ian van der Woude, the NightQuarter’s Managing Director told Gold Coast street press Blank GC.
“Bands will perform on a large stage with good production and we’ve got a 10m x 6m festival stage that’s in place permanently,” he continued.
“The vision for the Paddock area is really as a creative hub for musicians on the Gold Coast mixed in with touring bands and other acts. And it’s not just music. We’re also doing a short film festival that we’re negotiating at the current time as well as other forms of entertainment,” Ian said.
Just yesterday NightQuarter announced the acts who will play on opening night. Gold Coast Music Awards Emerging Artist of the Year Hanlon Brothers (pictured in feature image) will headline along with Felicity Lawless and CC The Cat filling out the bill.
Touring acts like The Cairos and Nattali Rize, OKA, Ginger and the Ghost have also been announced amongst an incredible number of Gold Coast and regional bands.
The full artist lineup over coming months is: Cheap Fakes, Jake Whittaker, Hussy Hicks, Katie Who , Josh Lovegrove , Taylor, C90 Superchrome , Dubmarine, Fox and Fiasco , Ginger and the Ghost , Leopold’s Treat, Black Rabbit George , Avaberee, Matty Rogers, Benny D Williams , Alone Alaska, Seeka, The Lyrical, Nattali Rize, Hot Potato , Nicky Convine , The Twine, Gabriel and Cecilia, City Over Sand, Hemingway , Aquila Young , Matiu Te huki, OKA, Neighbour, The Cairos, Francis Wolves, Wandering Eyes, Yes Sir Noceur , Big Strong Brute , Good Oak, Chocolate Strings , The Unusual Suspects , Ella Fence and Banff.
