Did you notice that I referenced a song from Brisbane rockers DZ Deathrays in the same sentence as Falls Festival? That wasn’t a coincidence. DZ Deathrays and Cloud Control are the latest additions to Falls Festival as The Strokes frontman Julian Casablancas cancels his appearance with The Voidz due to ‘unforseen logistical circumstances’. Upset? Never fear! Julian Casablancas has reassured Australian fans that he will return in the New Year with a new string of dates, which will allow him to play full headliner sets with The Voidz.
DZ Deathrays have absolutely annihilated the Australian music scene after playing packed sets around Australia with the boutique Blurst of Times Festival as well as their tour supporting Black Rat, which netted them the Best Hard Rock/Heavy Metal Album of 2014 at the ARIAS this year. Cloud Control have supported almost every major indie band around today, from Arcade Fire and Vampire Weekend to Weezer, and their music and live presence demonstrate just how these Australian rockers earned these lucrative slots.
The other news surrounding Falls Festival is that the second release of tickets for Byron Bay’s leg of the festival have now completely sold out. Just before they sold out, however, Falls Festival released the timetables and maps for each stop, which our very own Jake Wilton reported on.
While it is a shame that Julian Casablancas + The Voidz will not be gracing our shores for Falls Festival, it is great to see the festival supporting the Australian acts that deserve to be on the incredible lineup that is Falls Music and Arts Festival 2014.
