Opera Queensland to train 20 Gold Coast singers for Ruddigore

The Gold Coast will be singing with the stars in 2018 when Opera Queensland trains 20 local singers to perform in a critically-acclaimed, star-studded production of Gilbert & Sullivan’s ‘Ruddigore, or the Witch’s Curse!’.

Anyone interested in performing in the Gold Coast chorus of Ruddigore, or the Witch’s Curse! can register on operaq.com.au.

Auditions will be held in early 2018 and those who are successful will receive intensive training in singing, dancing and stagecraft, before joining the professional cast on stage on 3 and 4 August.

‘Ruddigore, or the Witch’s Curse!’ is a gothic tale of a dark secret passed through generations, featuring brilliant musical gems, and brought to life by OperaQ’s outgoing Artistic Director Lindy Hume’s irreverent, fast-paced direction and Richard Roberts’ sepia-tinted, Victoriana-inspired design.

The madcap, pythonesque production premiered in Brisbane in July 2017 to huge acclaim. The same star-studded cast seen in Brisbane – stage and screen actor Bryan Probets, multi-talented Kransky sister Christine Johnston, effervescent soprano Natalie Christie Peluso, Helpmann award-winner Kanen Breen, and some of Australia’s most respected opera artists, Jason Barry-Smith, Roxane Hislop and Andrew Collis – will also be coming to the Gold Coast.

Ms Hume said, “I adore ‘Ruddigore’. It’s totally quirky, eccentric and anarchic – all the things I love comedy to be, set to fabulous music, with an amazing cast! What more could a director want?”
