This year will see the Gold Coast come together for its fourth regional Child Protection Week with a bunch of family-friendly celebrations taking place between Sunday 6 and Saturday 12 September.
When it comes to child protection, prevention and early intervention are key. And the theme for this year’s events is every adult has a responsibility to keep children safe. Organisers are hoping to spread a few special messages:
- listening to children helps to protect them
- mean or cruel words do harm
- seeing or experiencing domestic or family violence affects children
Those themes will be highlighted with three free family days showcasing the services and support available locally for families and children.
Monday 7 September, 3.00 – 5.00pm | Burleigh Heads Memorial Park, Connor Street | sausage sizzle, jumping castle, obstacle course and entertainment.
Wednesday 9 September, 9am – 12 noon | Oxenford and Coomera Community Youth Centre, 28 Leo Graham Way | free morning tea, jumping castle, animal farm, face painting.
Friday 11 September, 9am – 12 noon | Broadwater Parklands, Great Lawn | sausage sizzle, Chuggy Choo Choo train and obstacle course, animal farm, jumping castle, games and entertainment.
Those involved in supporting the event include Centacare Family & Relationship Services, Act for Kids, Queensland Department of Communities, Gold Coast City Council, Communities for Children, The Benevolent Society and Queensland Police Service.
