Storyfest organisers have this afternoon announced the event’s cancellation.
The youth literary event, the Gold Coast’s only writers’ festival announced the news in a statement which said the festival – is entering “unchartered territory.”
Full statement from Storyfest 2020 about the festival’s cancellation:
“Due to the recent announcement by Council of Australia Governments (COAG) advising against large non-essential gatherings and in collaboration with our presenting partner – Somerset College, we have made the very difficult decision to cancel 2020 Storyfest.
We realise this will cause disappointment and hardship to many although we believe this is in the best interests of the wider community and supporting the recommendations to contain and manage the spread of COVID-19.
For ticket holders, we will contact you next week to work through refunding your bookings.
We remain committed to the development of children’s literacy programmes– we will be back bigger and better in 2021 and look forward to welcoming you all.
To our sponsors, we sincerely thank you for your continued support through these difficult times.
Should you have queries, please email through to email@example.com and we will endeavour to respond as quickly as possible.”
Everyone at Blank Gold Coast is thinking of organisers, speakers and delegates impacted by this devastating cancellation.
