Storyfest goes live with Bookmarked@7

Somerset Storyfest is lifting the lid on arts and culture on the Gold Coast with the launch of Bookmarked@7, a new digital programme that will share extraordinary stories from within the Gold Coast cultural community, live from 7pm, Monday 1 June.

The programme will welcome award-winning journalist and writer, Dr Caroline Graham, as its resident host for the series. Caroline will conduct in conversation style interviews which will be live streamed via Facebook, sharing stories from various practitioners from the Gold Coast community and highlighting legacy projects that will live on long after COVID-19.

“Like other events and industries impacted by the pandemic, the cultural industry on the Gold Coast has been hit hard and the Storyfest team have been busy devising new ways to help support, inform and enrich the local community,” said Somerset Storyfest CEO and Festival Director, Andrea Lewis.

Bookmarked@7 emerging Producer, Kaitlin Johnson, is passionate about the arts, having studied internationally and worked with people in a variety of sub-industries including film, theatre, music and visual arts, and is excited to be a part of the Storyfest initiative.

“Essentially the programme will provide a platform to share the stories of organisations and individual practitioners, to discover who they are, what they’re doing during COVID, and what their plans are for the future,” said Ms Johnson.

“There are so many amazing people doing amazing things, it’s a fantastic opportunity for lovers of the arts to discover upcoming projects and what’s happening throughout the Gold Coast.”

And in case that wasn’t incentive enough, Bookmarked@7 premieres on Monday with our very own Samantha Morris, co-founder and director of BlankGC magazine and the Gold Coast Music Awards.

As well as being the fount of knowledge for all things Gold Coast music and arts, Mum of one Sam is a passionate conservationist, avid culture vulture and a complete and total book nerd. Some of the many reasons we love her, and why her spot will be a not-to-be-missed event.

Known for busting boring stereotypes of the Gold Coast’s cultural offering, Sam is guaranteed to share interesting and inspiring insights.

Upcoming guests also include Tijuana Cartel – winner of this year’s Gold Coast Music Awards (which the multi-talented Sam will also be facilitating); and local musician and storyteller, Fletcher Babb – aka – Cold Ghost.

The Facebook livestream episodes will be mediated, meaning viewers will have a chance to ask questions of featured artists in real-time.

Those unable to tune in at 7pm every Monday night for the Facebook live broadcasts, will be able to find the recorded episodes in the Somerset Storyfest Facebook page timeline or videos section.
