Superhero Weekend 2020 cancelled: statement

Another Gold Coast event has announced its cancellation.

Gold Coast Superhero Weekend organisers released this statement at 3.00pm this afternoon.

“Given the ongoing concerns around mass gatherings, we will be to cancelling the annual Supanova Superhero Parade and all related Gold Coast Superhero Weekend activities for Sunday March 15th.

All scheduled programming for Saturday will go ahead as planned, including Supanova Comic Con & Gaming Expo.

We understand that this decision may bring some disappointment and inconveniences, and also understand the effort that goes into making this event special. However, our first priority is always the safety of our community, attendees and staff.

We look forward to greeting everyone in their costumes and capes next year.

For more information on what activities this applies to, go to https://gcsuperheroweekend.com.au/event-update/

As you would appreciate Acting CEO, Mark Duckworth is working around the clock today and tomorrow on the back of this announcement so won’t be available to talk to any Media until next week.”

Our thoughts are with the team who have worked tirelessly for the past year to coordinate this event. As well as the thousands of families who were planning to attend the Superhero Parade tomorrow.
