Suzi Quatro: Live gallery and review | The STAR Gold Coast | Friday 1 November 2019

Last night saw the girl from Detroit City and Rock n Roll legend, Suzi Quatro perform live on the Gold Coast as part of her ‘It’s Only Rock n Roll’ tour, and her 37th tour of Australia. “You’re the reason I keep coming”,  she told the almost full house of die-hard fans. The audience may have been a little quieter than in previous years, and perhaps more water was consumed than spirits, but they knew the words of every song from the opening number, ‘The Wild One’ to more recent songs from her latest studio album, ‘No Control’.

This album was mostly a collaboration with her son, Richard, son of Suzi’s former husband and lead guitarist, Len Tuckey. With no support act, the night spanned the five decades of Suzi’s music career interspersed with humour and colourful commentary. “Bass, drums, keys and guitar. It will be exciting to be raw again. Back to basics”  she said.

The night was indeed a raw, honest show with a superb backing band that included Tim Henwood (Palace of the King, Rogue Traders) on guitar and the sensational Nat Allison, also on guitar. One of the highlights of the night was Suzi onstage alone, at the piano, sharing ‘Can I Be Your Girl’.

The hits just kept coming, ’48 Crash’, ‘Devil Gate Drive’ and ‘Can the Can’, and by the end of the night, the whole audience was standing and stomping for more! She may be 69 years of age and 152 cms in height, but she remains a giant in the world of rock n roll – a true legend!
