Local singer songwriter and guitarist Sarah Shah will be unearthing some new tunes and stories with ‘The Evening’, a night of music housed in the warm and intimate setting of Haul in Burleigh Heads. Sarah has been quiet on the music scene lately as she completed her Honours thesis in Psychological Science. Through this time of study and work, music-making and singing were still a core component in her life.
The idea for this early evening concert Sarah says, “Will be an ‘evening’ or balancing out of life’s ups and downs or emotional challenges that are happening. The concept is to share some new songs and for people to come, relax and be in bed on time!”
“My songs are not heavy but deep and I want to reach a certain place in my life before I share them. I want to shine this good energy into the world. I know my music is here to be shared – there is no pressure or force.”
Sarah says her music comes from a vulnerable yet honorable place. “I’m fascinated with human behavior, there are always reasons for it. It’s beautiful and challenging and I’m a witness to these experiences. We’re all human and all doing our best.”
Sarah’s evening will also feature Rojan, a violinist accompanying her on a selection of songs. “I’ve loved the sound of strings ever since I was a kid. Incorporating strings to my songs is one of my dreams come true.”
The acoustic setting will be held in Haul, Mathew Schembri’s new movie studio. Haul is a transformative space that can morph from an art exhibition one week to a film scene being shot the next. On Saturday 27 July, Haul will be a styled space dressed in ambient lighting with couches and cushions for the audience to sink into. Sarah will also have her EP ‘Into the Sun’ For those wishing to take some chilled tunes home.
This is a night to be still. To be loved. To lay your head back and listen to the sounds of Sarah Shah.
