Wallapalooza is a homegrown favourite. A grassroots, suburban festival, with a big heart, a big lineup and a big impact on the local scene.
Having already delivered a kick-arse sideshow in Sydney in July, Wallapalooza this year has a new three-day format, kicking off tonight.
These Four Walls, Mass Sky Raid, Hammers, Junket Pump, Love Hate Rebellion, Katie Who and Purple Zain are all on the lineup alongside seminal Australia ska-punksters Area-7 and Brisbane’s Smoking Martha. Gold Coast Music Award winners The Black Swamp and Tesla Coils and three-time finalists Chelsea Rockwells are also expected to help pull big crowds.
The three-day format sees a pre-party and after-party add to the previous one-day format. Tonight, the first ever WallaPRElooza event features The Wrath, Demonatrix, Second Circle and Tensions Arise. Doors open at 8.00pm and it’s free entry.
On Saturday night, the full festival goes full throttle. With Versus Fate, Swamp Gully Howlers, The Molotov, Redstarborn, Snake Mountain (pictured in feature image), Veal and Azreal joining those listed above. Plus others. Seriously, it’s a BIG lineup. There’s more than 30 acts over three stages from noon to midnight. And it’s totally free.
Coordinated by Andy Clark, Wallapalooza is the only Gold Coast festival to extend its reach to other cities. The Sydney side show, taking place on Sunday 30 July at Frankies Pizza by the Slice features Gold Coast heavy metal merchants Azreal and These Four Walls alongside Flaming Wrekage.
And then to wrap things up for the weekend, the Afterpalooza party takes place on Sunday with Boho Mofos, Salt & Steel, Brooke Taylor & Helsinki Records, Speedracer (unplugged) and the Andrew Baxter Band. Door open at 7.00pm and yep, you guessed it, it’s totally free.
There’s a reason Wallapalooza consistently attracts more than a thousand people. Actually there’s several reasons. First and foremost, the music is world class. But the location is unique, the crowd is super-chilled, and the ticket price has been the same since the event’s inception. TOTALLY FREE.
